MDRS 200 First EVA

Discover our first EVA (Extra-Vehicular Activity) after several days stuck by the snow ! While 4 members where performing missions outside, the "HabCom" would keep in communication with them from the Hab.

How did it work ?

Yesterday: Preparation of the EVA, selection of the missions and people to go, path planning and submission to crew support for approval 10:10 : Preparation of the crew, putting on the spacesuits, helmets, and walkies-talkies with the help of the crew members staying inside the Habitat 10:40: Last checks and depressurisation in the airlock room 10:50: engineering check of the station, building inspection and resources assessment (propane, diesel, etc.) 11:05: Thermal measurements of the Habitat via an infrared camera and drone mapping of the surroundings 11:50: Moving to the hills in the video background to collect field samples (for biology/chemistry experiments) 12:50: Moving to another area to map via the drone, with mesas and stratified layers 14:30: Return of the crew to the Habitat 14:35: Pressuration 14:50: Removal of the spacesuits (and fresh air breath !) 15:00: Lunch and debriefing, report making for mission support

Impressive how immersive it is when you are disconnected from the environment with your spacesuit in such a Martian location.

Looking forward to going on the next one!
